Claire Bray Hiring

Welcome to Lufkin ISD, Mrs. Bray!

Claire Bray began her teaching career after graduating from Southwestern University in 1998. She taught 8th Grade U.S. History in Plano ISD before moving to Texarkana, where she taught AP European History, Gifted and Talented, and Pre-AP World History. In 2006, she joined Nacogdoches High School as a Social Studies teacher, later serving as Department Chair and part-time NISD Social Studies Director. In 2013, she became an Assistant Principal at NHS and has since served as an administrator at both Nacogdoches High School and Mike Moses Middle School. She most recently served as the Associate Principal at NHS.

Throughout her time in education, Bray has been actively involved at the district and state levels. She has served on TEA committees for EOC and STAAR design, the Nacogdoches ISD District Improvement Plan Committee, the District Advisory Committee, and the District of Innovation Calendar Committee. She currently serves on the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) Publications Committee and has collaborated with organizations including the Dana Center at The University of Texas at Austin and Stephen F. Austin State University.

In 2022, Bray was selected as the TASSP Region VII Assistant Principal of the Year and was named one of three state finalists for Texas Assistant Principal of the Year.

One of her proudest contributions is helping develop NISD’s new teacher mentoring program, which pairs experienced mentors with first-year teachers. She also leads a weekly campus support group called “Tuesday’s Ten,” where new teachers receive guidance, professional development, and campus updates.

Lufkin ISD is thrilled to welcome Mrs. Bray as the new Principal of Herty Primary and looks forward to the leadership, experience, and passion she brings to the campus and its students.
