This Black History Month, Lufkin ISD proudly honors the legacy of Coach Willie Ross, a true pillar of Lufkin athletics and education. Coach Ross dedicated more than 50 years of his life to education, serving as a respected football and track coach and an even more impactful mentor to generations of students. His leadership, discipline, and commitment to excellence left a lasting mark on countless young people and the Lufkin community as a whole.

Coach Ross’s influence continues through the Willie Ross Relays, a track meet proudly named in his honor that celebrates competition, tradition, and Panther pride each year.
