School Health Advisory Council
SHAC is an organized group of parents, community members, and students that are empowered to address issues that impact our children’s health.
A SHAC member can be an advocate for better nutrition. The SHAC is the forum for getting information to the community and parents.
SHAC has the ability to collaborate, educate, persuade and assist in a volunteer capacity.
Healthy students are better learners. The Lufkin ISD Health Advisory Council (SHAC) will work together with school staff, families, agencies, and other interested community members to positively impact health attitudes and behaviors.
The Lufkin ISD SHAC’s purpose is to provide advice to the district on aspects of school health utilizing the “Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child” model, which is a collaborative approach to learning and health: Community Environment Counseling, Psychological and Social Services, Employee Wellness, Family Engagement, Health Education, Health Services, Nutrition Environment and Services, Physical Education & Physical Activity, Physical Environment, Social and Emotional Climate.
- To have an active SHAC: be accountable for SHAC meetings.
