Four LHS students will compete at the Business Professionals of America State Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas in March. The students recently competed at the regional level securing spots to the state conference.

Monday is a student holiday and staff development day.

Excellence Award for February was awarded to Nurse Glenda Walker. The award is given monthly to a nurse who has demonstrated extraordinary care of students, detailed records, problem-solving skills among other life-saving skills.

Aanvi Manda, Brandon Elementary fourth grader, takes home the coveted Webster’s Dictionary as the individual winner of the Kiwanis Scripps District Spelling Bee held this past weekend at Lufkin High School.

Mrs. Gabriela Murphy, Lufkin High School Go Center Counselor, was selected as a 2019 Very Important Counselor for Texas A&M University.

Spaceships, Mars exploration, and drones in the sky were all part of the 4th Grade STEM Exploration Day. It was a blast-off experience!!

Five Lufkin High School students will be heading to state competition in criminal justice categories on March 27-29 at Bryan, Texas.

“I used to deliver mail, now I deliver kids,” said Sam Elam, Lufkin ISD bus driver who has been with the district since 2010.

The Lufkin ISD Education Foundation received a monetary donation from the Brookshire Brothers Charitable Foundation that will be used to help fund innovative teacher grants that will benefit students in the classroom.

The Rotary Interact students presented at the Lufkin Rotary Club’s weekly meeting on Monday to discuss their experience at Camp RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards).

Pam Clark is all too familiar with the 20th of the month, mainly because she has been the Payroll/Benefits Supervisor for the school district for 21 years. For all of those years, she has handled monthly payroll, filed 941 tax returns, workers’ compensation, monthly retirement benefits, billing reconciliation, communication of benefits and much more.

Congratulations to the second graders who won the MLK poster contest. The winners were announced at the MLK celebration on Monday at Dunbar Primary.

Over 72,900 students initially entered the All-State competitive process, and 1,780 students are selected to perform in 15 All-State ensembles (bands, orchestras, and choirs). Among those selected were three students from Lufkin High School.

In appreciation of Texas’ dedicated school board members, January 2019 is School Board Recognition Month.

Mr. Tommy Smith’s life has come full circle. From being the band student turned director who made his teachers proud, to now being the band director who is proud of his students.

Soul to Soul was an evening of academic celebrations, informative sessions, food and entertainment. Thanks to the Soul to Soul committee for putting on an amazing event.

“Missy is always positive and has a contagious smile. Her heart for students is amazing,” said Jan Fulbright, director of nursing.

Betty Williams became an employee of Lufkin ISD because she wanted to be a good mom, and now she helps thousands of children each year as the administrative assistant at Lufkin Middle School.

The state accounting team was recognized with a flag on LHS Main Street hallway. The flag is now hanging among the other state recognition flags. Currently, it is the only banner for academic accomplishment but hopefully not for long.
