Congratulations to the 2019 LISD Leadership Academy Graduates
The Lufkin ISD Leadership Academy is a program for teachers, instructional coaches and other aspiring leaders. The Academy develops leadership capacity in participants to enable them to progress as leaders on their campuses and in the district.

2018 LHS graduate receives perfect score on AP Government Exam
2018 Lufkin High School graduate, Cristal Delacruz, received a perfect score on the AP United States Government and Politics Exam she took last year. She earned a top score of 5 on the exam, but was one among 113 students in the world who scored a perfect score according to a letter from The College Board.

583 students honored at Supt. Honor Roll Breakfast
Students from grades 3rd through 12th enjoyed a hearty breakfast in celebration of their academic success throughout the school year at the Superintendent’s Honor Roll Breakfast hosted by Superintendent Lynn Torres.

Garrett Primary students congratulate LHS grads
Commitment to Graduation (C2G) is a weeklong series of events to highlight the importance of graduating from high school. The LHS 2019 graduates paraded through primary, elementary, and middle school campuses to the song Pomp and Circumstance wearing their graduation caps and gowns.

Students put heart in their art for WHMC art contest
Alivia Wright, Herty Primary student, and Rey Hernandez, Lufkin High School student, won first place in the Art with Heart Contest sponsored by Woodland Heights Medical Center. Winners were announced at the Women in Red Luncheon.

What an honor! LHS NHS Induction Ceremony
58 LHS juniors and 9 seniors were inducted into the National Honor Society at the Tom Jack Lucas Auditorium in a ceremony today.

On top of the world! Pantherbots experience World Robotics Competition
Because we have chosen to compete the way we have the past 12 years we were much better prepared for the level of competition we met in Houston this weekend. I have always told the team, “Watch and learn. Appreciate what they have done and it will help us to be better.” That attitude helped us successfully build one of the best robots and strategies in our team history.”

Nurse April Ritter receives the Purple Heart Award this month
April Ritter has been a Registered Nurse for 12 years and happy to be the RN at Slack Elementary, her childhood elementary school.

When a huge storm ripped through the Lufkin High School property leaving twisted trees, snapped off telephone poles and downed lines, it was the staff at Lufkin ISD and community members who so graciously volunteered to help pick up the pieces.

At the Lufkin ISD board work session, architects from Goodwin-Lasiter-Strong presented renderings of the bond projects for Lufkin Middle School, the multi-purpose facility at the high school, and the ball field complex.

8th grader wins $500 savings account for making A’s!
Rosario Cuello, 8th grader at Lufkin Middle School, entered a drawing at Huntington State Bank for each A she made in her classes and was rewarded with a $500 savings account!

“The number one thing for kids to understand is you can find a connection with everyone. You can be diplomatic. You can always find something in common, if you try,” Jackson Randle.

Lufkin Panther golfers headed to regionals!
The LHS golf team played their district tournament this week, and the boys finished 2nd qualifying for regionals. Lufkin also took home the individual championships with Jaxon Griffith winning for the boys and Maddie Zimmerman winning the girls district championship.

Special needs transition parent meeting scheduled for April 23rd
Parents of special needs children can learn about job skills and transitioning to be prepared for real-world experiences.

Students are all smiles at the Young Athletes event at Herty Primary
The Herty Primary Young Athletes Program is a part of Special Olympics for the children with special needs at Herty Primary. The children participate in activities such as an obstacle course, basketball, bowling, crawling and music and movement.

The Lufkin ISD Young Scholars Art Exhibition was carefully crafted by the imaginations of 300 elementary students who created pieces that were inspired by exploring the works of great artists.
