Long snapper with prosthetic leg helps Lufkin freshmen kick go-ahead field goal
Isaac Huerta, a 15-year-old Lufkin High School student who has a prosthetic leg, wanted to play football simply because his buddies did. On Thursday night, he helped his football buddies score a go-ahead field goal in the last game of their freshman season.

Tickets for this first game are $6 for adults and $3 for students in advance and $7 at the door.

The Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities.

National School Lunch Week is Delicious!
“Our recipe for success is student feedback. It is critical in determining what makes it on the menu. We discuss with the campus managers what their kids want. It’s our goal to provide “kid friendly” menus to ensure that kids are actually eating the food and not throwing it away. If kids are hungry, they aren’t focused. If they’re not focused, they can’t learn.”

‘Oklahoma: The Great American Musical’ coming to LHS on Oct. 12-14
Lufkin High School’s Theatre Department will present Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. There’s also a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Saturday. All tickets are $5.

Lufkin High School student earns top ACT score
Lufkin High School senior Allison Todd, daughter of David and Terri Todd, earned the highest possible ACT composite score of 36. On average, fewer than one-tenth of 1 percent of students who take the ACT earn a top score.

Lufkin ISD Superintendent Dr. LaTonya Goffney was named the Texas Superintendent of the Year on Saturday in Dallas.

Lufkin High School art department head unveils exhibit at AC
Denise Stringer Davis, head of Lufkin High School’s Studio Arts department, unveiled “Pulling Threads,” her new exhibition and installation in the Temple Theater on the Angelina College campus in Lufkin, on Tuesday night.

Monday is a student holiday and a staff development day.

Parents: Dyslexia Awareness Informational Meeting
October is Dyslexia Awareness Month, and Lufkin ISD will be hosting a Dyslexia Awareness Parent Night on Oct. 17.
