LHS boys soccer team heading up soccer clinic
Lufkin High School Boys Soccer team is heading up the the 2019 Lil’ Panther Soccer Clinic. Boys and girls Kindergarten through 5th grade are welcome to join in the fun!

Dunbar Primary students sprint into the holidays competing against Santa to complete the obstacle course first at the Santa Chase.

Golden Spatula Winner of the month is Lufkin Middle School
This month’s recipient of the Golden Spatula Award is the Lufkin Middle School cafeteria staff. The Golden Spatula is given to the campus cafeteria staff who goes above and beyond to make sure students are served delicious, nutritious meals every day

Boston Market comes to life at Brandon Elementary (Photos)
Brandon Elementary Gifted & Talented 5th grade class created a Boston Market in the cafeteria complete with costumes, props and dances from the colonial time period.

Gifted and Talented Screenings and Advanced Academics Night

Soul to Soul event tonight
Tonight is the third annual Soul to Soul event scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Lufkin High School.

Brandon Elementary fourth grader is finalist in state history writing contest
Daniel Lanigan, age 10, was a finalist in Land Commissioner George P. Bush’s writing contest titled Save Texas History for his story on a local legend, Rudolph the Red Nosed Pumping Unit.

“Prissy the Panther” placed 3rd at NCA Mascot Championship
Lufkin High School Freshman mascot, Bella Aldred, known as “Prissy the Panther” won third place in the National Cheerleaders Association State-of-Texas Mascot Championship.

Lufkin ISD adds 12 new AED’s across the district
Lufkin ISD purchased twelve new Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to add to the existing 22 AEDs. Lufkin ISD is now covered with AEDs located throughout the entire district.

Day in the Life of Saul Reyna Carreon
Saul Reyna Carreon loves his job and loves hands-on work. He is the Lead HVAC employee for the district and is responsible for the HVAC systems on all campuses and administration buildings.

Nurse Mitchell receives the Purple Heart of Excellence Award
Mrs. Jan Fulbright, director of nursing, said, “Ramona is a great nurse. She never complains no matter what she is asked to do.”

Lufkin Education Foundation Names McMullen as New Executive Director
Scott Neill, Board President of the Lufkin Education Foundation said, “We are looking forward to the leadership that Vercie will bring to the Foundation, and we anticipate that Vercie will be able to grow and expand upon the momentum the Foundation has achieved since its inception over five years ago.”

Double the fun! Hackney Primary has five sets of identical female twins
The twins range in age from three to four-years-old and are not all in their sisters’ classes. When asked if they like being twins, the consensus was a resounding yes!

A Day in the Life of Angelina San Juan
The floors are squeaky clean, and the campus smells good because of the great job Mrs. San Juan does for the school; but her best work is her involvement in caring for students.

Santa visits the HOSTS reading lab at Brandon Elementary
Santa came early to visit the students at the HOSTS (Help One Student to Succeed) reading lab at Brandon Elementary. HOSTS is a nationally recognized mentoring program that pairs a student who needs help in reading with a community member who wants to make a difference in a student’s life.
SACSCOC designates LHS as an instructional site for Angelina College
The designation will allow Lufkin High School the flexibility to offer more selections of college courses to all students taking dual credit courses.

Thanks to the citizens of Lufkin ISD, we can progress with bond projects
As evident by the passing of the bond election in May, we have a community that wants what’s best for its future citizens. Now it’s time for the real work to begin, so that we can build something that the community will be proud of for another 60 years.

dd’s Discounts donates money for new books for Trout students
Cindy Nerren, principal of Trout Primary, said, “We are so fortunate to be the beneficiaries of this fundraiser. Our students love getting new books and these book are beautiful, hardback books. I want to thank Mr. Flores and dd’s Discounts for this partnership.”

A Day in the Life of Mrs. Bettie Kennedy-Watts
It’s a new day every day. We have events, we get kids where they need to be, help them to stop crying. I bond with these babies. Some kids, I’m the only one who can help them to stop crying. I just talk to them and love on them. Sometimes they need to talk or just need a hug.

Evento en Español (Photos)
The Evento en Español was an evening of fiesta and entertainment. Singing on the stage at Tom Jack Lucas Auditorium were the students from Slack Elementary and dancing were the Panther Pride students. It was a beautiful evening thanks to Elizabeth Lopez and the Nuestras Madres committee.
