Back to school with a fresh start!
Superintendent Torres: I have never been a fan of New Year’s resolutions made hastily in January. For me, back to school has always been the place for resolutions and fresh starts.

Lufkin ISD Administrators roll out compensation plan
The Lufkin ISD Board of Trustees approved a new compensation plan for all employees at the July board meeting. Thanks to the school finance reforms in House Bill 3, Lufkin ISD will receive 10.4 million in additional funds. Click on this post to review the teacher salary chart.

I could not be more proud of our students, staff, and community partners for making our first planning year a success. Our students are flourishing and gaining the skills they need to be successful in taking college courses.

U.S. Senator Cornyn visits LHS for update on GEAR UP program progress
U.S. Senator John Cornyn visited Lufkin High School to see how the GEAR UP program has improved graduation rates and college enrollment by raising awareness with students and families of post-secondary options.

Congrats, 2019 Graduates!
Our students will be attending 56 different colleges (including one online college and three trade schools) and four branches of the military (U.S. Air Force, one student; U.S. Marine Corps, five students; U.S. Army, six students; and U.S. Navy, three students).

Eleven LHS students earn statewide music award
Eleven LHS students were awarded the Texas Music Scholar Award for their outstanding scholastic merit, musicianship, and citizenship.

LISD Students receive 26,000 books to take home by Book Buddies of E.T.
60,000 books have been donated by Book Buddies of East Texas to children in the East Texas area with 26,000 of those books going to students at Lufkin ISD.

Val and Sal announced at Panthers of Prestige Banquet
Ali Khurshid was named Valedictorian and Anisha Rao was named Salutatorian of the 2019 graduating class at the Lufkin ISD Education Foundation’s Panthers of Prestige banquet last night.

Board members sworn in and student excellence celebrated at May board meeting
At the May Lufkin ISD School Board Meeting, Allyson Langston and Don Muhlbach were sworn in to serve another term on the school board.

Drs. Pinnamaneni give donation for LMS Success Initiative
Drs. Kavitha and Lenin Pinnamaneni presented a check in the amount of $30,000 to Lufkin ISD Superintendent Lynn Torres to be used for the Lufkin Middle School Success Initiative. They both feel that education is the key to future success and would encourage everyone to unite to support our students.

All students will have access to free breakfast & lunch next school year
Lufkin ISD will participate in a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) next school year that will allow the district to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students.

LHS Accounting UIL STATE CHAMPS!
The Lufkin High School accounting team has won the state UIL Accounting Competition for the second year in a row.
