Kylie Ridings

The National Honor Society (NHS) announced that Kylie Ridings, a high school senior at Lufkin High School and member of NHS, has been selected as an NHS Scholarship semifinalist.

Since 1946, more than $21 million in scholarships have been awarded to outstanding NHS senior members to support college access and student success. The scholarship program is supported by the parent organization of NHS, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

In the 100+ years since NHS was founded in 1921, members have been making a difference in their schools and communities, and the NHS Scholarship is NASSP’s way of recognizing the most exceptional of these student leaders. Recipients are chosen based on their demonstrated work to support the four pillars of NHS: scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

“Kylie is a remarkable young woman whose academic and character strengths set her apart from her peers. Kylie’s determination and kindness are evident in all that she undertakes, and her genuine care for others and leadership abilities make her a role model not only for younger students, but also for adults. My co-adviser, Brittany Sanchez, and I are incredibly proud to have Kylie represent our chapter of National Honor Society. Kylie is truly deserving of this distinction, ” said Emily Courtney, Lufkin High School NHS Chapter Adviser.

At Lufkin High School, Ridings has served as the captain of both the varsity girls soccer team and the cross country team and as an ambassador for the Angelina County Youth Fair. Furthermore, she gives back to her community by coaching youth soccer, teaching Vacation Bible School at her church, Harmony Hill Baptist Church, and participating in monthly service projects with her 4-H horse club. This fall, she will attend and play soccer for Montreat College in Black Mountain, North Carolina to study Pre-Veterinary Studies.
