Lufkin ISD recognized the district’s Student Council Presidents from elementary, middle school and high school at the October Board meeting at the Administration Building. The presidents are Landon Simmons, Anderson Elementary; Lila Carter and Hayes Zeleskey, Brandon Elementary; Tason Williams and Jaxon McKinney, Brookhollow Elementary; Corey Arline, Coston Elementary; Luke Hicks, Slack Elementary; Za’Nyah Edwards, 6th grade; Qwintin Harrell, 7th grade; Joshua Bennett, 8th grade; Grant Ashby, Lufkin High School.

After the students were recognized, Lufkin ISD officials announced during a public hearing that the district received a rating of “A” for “Superior Achievement” under Texas’ School F.I.R.S.T. financial accountability rating system. The “Superior Achievement” rating is the state’s highest, demonstrating the quality of Lufkin ISD’s financial management and reporting system. Lufkin ISD received a score of 100 out of 100 points.

The Texas Education Agency assigned one of four financial accountability ratings to Texas school districts, with the highest being “A” for “Superior Achievement.” Lufkin ISD has achieved the highest rating for 18 prior years.

At the end of the meeting Matt Knight said he wanted to publicly acknowledge how nice the new parking lot was to have during the Run on the Panthers today.

“I also want to thank Coach Belshaw, Coach Cook, the Cross Country team and Andy Adams who got like 300 pictures on Facebook before noon,” Knight said. “It was a special event and I don’t know anywhere else where an event like this happens. Thank you!”
