Maria Moreno was recognized today for 23 years of service on the  Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC). She was honored at the  LPAC Parent Meeting with a plaque for her service and dedication to Lufkin ISD and Emergent Bilinguals.

“She has been an instrumental part of the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee in assisting campuses and participating in annual reviews and other meetings, as necessary, to ensure student progress and appropriate services. We appreciate her dedication to our district,” said Dr. Betsy Mijares, Director of Bilingual Services.

According to the TEA website: Participation of Emergent Bilingual (EB) students, also referred to as English learners (ELs) in State Assessments requires language proficiency assessment committees (LPACs) to make assessment decisions on an individual student basis. This is in accordance with administrative procedures established by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and in the Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 101, Subchapter AA, Commissioner’s Rules. To view all EL resources related to state assessments, visit the EL webpage. For assistance on the implementation of state and federal guidance regarding program services for ELs, visit the English Learner Support Division webpage.
