Lufkin ISD Board of Trustees passed a resolution to postpone the May 2020 election pursuant to Governor Abbott’s proclamation issued by the Secretary of State ruling that proceeding with elections could be endangering the health and safety of voters.

Mrs. Torres said in a Zoom meeting yesterday that we don’t have a choice at this time especially since we are a ‘stay home, stay safe community’. She mentioned that the governor might entertain the idea of having a special election this summer and that the district could possibly apply for that type of election.

Mr. Hall Henderson made a motion to pass the resolution with the understanding that the district apply for a special election if one is offered.

He said, “It needs to be our priority. That makes it better for our voters and the district. Maybe we can coincide with Angelina College.”

If no special elections are held this summer, the school board election will be in November.
