The Woodland Heights Medical Center (WHMC) Rehabilitation Center provides care for patients after illness and injury. According to their website, “We believe that recovery encompasses both mind and body, so our comprehensive services address both the mental and physical aspects of rehabilitation.”

With those concepts in mind, the director of the Rehabilitation Center, Nichole Chala, approached Denise Davis, Lufkin High School Fine Arts Department Head, about creating a serene mural on the wall at the Center that would stimulate conversations for their patients to help develop communication skills. Lufkin High School students Parker Winthrop, Lola Pillows, and Molly Davis helped create an ocean-themed mural complete with sea turtle and stingray.

Huge thanks to the Rehabilitation Center for the opportunity for our students to make beautiful art for young patients to enjoy, and to Denise Davis and our students for giving of their time and talent.
