Daniel Lanigan, age 10, was a finalist in Land Commissioner George P. Bush’s writing contest titled Save Texas History for his story on a local legend, Rudolph the Red Nosed Pumping Unit.
Lufkin High School Freshman mascot, Bella Aldred, known as “Prissy the Panther” won third place in the National Cheerleaders Association State-of-Texas Mascot Championship.
Lufkin ISD purchased twelve new Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to add to the existing 22 AEDs. Lufkin ISD is now covered with AEDs located throughout the entire district.

A firearm was removed from a minor who brought it to the high school. After receiving a tip, the Lufkin ISD Police Department and school administrators immediately addressed the issue. The student was removed from campus by school law enforcement.read more

Junior Achievement of Angelina County hosted the first annual Stock Market Challenge at the Lufkin Convention Center today. Five Angelina County high schools consisting of 34 teams of juniors and seniors participated to experience the thrill of the Wall Street trading floor.read more
Congratulations to the Lufkin High School Cross Country Team who qualified for the UIL STATE competition to be held in
Austin on November 3rd. This is the first time since 1995 that the Panthers have headed to State competition in cross country and only the second time in school history.
Lufkin ISD is celebrating Red Ribbon Week this week. Wear a Red Ribbon to symbolize your commitment to be drug-free. The first National Red Ribbon celebration was in 1988.read more
