Social Studies

The social studies curriculum of Lufkin ISD is built from the framework of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). These broad standards provide a foundation in history, geography, economics, government, citizenship, culture, science and technology, society, and social studies skills. The social studies TEKS identify what students should know and be able to do at every grade level and in every course as they move through our public schools.

The Lufkin ISD curriculum narrows the broad focus of TEKS through a vertical aligned sequence of skills. Teams of teachers from all levels plan and align the curriculum to enhance learning and improve achievement through relevant, engaging lessons. Scientifically, research-based techniques and best practices provide the foundation for learning activities.
