The September board meeting was a celebration of the Deaf Awareness program and the high school STEM program, as well as the selection of a Construction Manager at Risk for the bond project.

Ribbon cutting celebrates local partnerships for Early College High School (photos)
The new Early College High School is a partnership between Lufkin ISD, Angelina College and the T.L.L. Temple Foundation. The ribbon cutting was a celebration of this partnership, as well as a kick off for the first cohort of students.

Georgia-Pacific has a vested interest in students graduating with quality skills who can enter the workforce. It is with that goal in mind, that Georgia-Pacific supports the Lufkin ISD Career Technical Education (CTE) program.

Carrie’s first order of business for the day is checking the tech tickets, which can average to 150 tickets a day. Tech tickets can range in importance, such as a phone or password reset all the way up to security system issues that need immediate attention.

Charlotte Bynum, CFO for Lufkin ISD, said, “This is a culmination of a lot of hard work over the months, not just from the business office, but leaders across the district.”

Lobo Stadium has a clear bag policy in place for game night
Beginning in August 2018, Longview ISD passed a clear bag policy for all Longview athletic events including events held at Lobo Stadium. With that in mind, Lufkin fans need to be cognizant of the items they can and cannot bring to the game.

Law Enforcement invited for free lunch and athletic events
As part of the district’s Safety and Security Plan, Lufkin ISD is offering free lunch and free entrance to athletic events to officers in order to have a larger security presence on the district’s fifteen campuses.

Lufkin ISD competes globally in Advanced Placement Scores
The 2017-2018 Advanced Placement (AP) report was released at the August board meeting revealing that students scored higher across the globe in six testing areas.

Coston students are in the HOUSE!
Coston Elementary is introducing the Ron Clark House system to students, which will sort students into one of four categories for the year. Students slid down a slide and randomly selected a color for their “house” that represents one of the four character traits.
