STREAM Lab is a dream come true!
Slack Elementary recently cut a ribbon to officially open the brand new STREAM lab, a place where students can learn about science, technology, research, engineering, art and math.

LHS Robotics students test drive surgical robot at Woodland Heights
Juniors and seniors from the LHS Pantherbots Robotics Club had the opportunity to experience working with a multi-million dollar surgical robot thanks to Woodland Heights Medical Center.

LMS nurses awarded Purple Heart of Excellence award

Student found with firearm is removed from Lufkin High School
A firearm was removed from a minor who brought it to the high school. After receiving a tip, the Lufkin ISD Police Department and school administrators immediately addressed the issue. The student was removed from campus by school law enforcement.

Home Sweet Home – Canine Officer receives a new dog house
The newest member of the LHS Police Department will have a nice, cozy home thanks to LHS students in Mrs. Lamb’s Ag Mechanics class, Horticulture class, and other student volunteers.

“The best thing about the job is that I enjoy interacting with kids. I can help them with an issue and give them the medical help they need. If they need medicine, I’m the first person they see before school. I like to send them on a positive note so they’ll have a good day. I want to be a positive impact.”

LHS team places 2nd in first ever Junior Achievement Stock Market Challenge
Junior Achievement of Angelina County hosted the first annual Stock Market Challenge at the Lufkin Convention Center today. Five Angelina County high schools consisting of 34 teams of juniors and seniors participated to experience the thrill of the Wall Street trading floor.

LHS Cross Country Team is STATE-BOUND!
Congratulations to the Lufkin High School Cross Country Team who qualified for the UIL STATE competition to be held in
Austin on November 3rd. This is the first time since 1995 that the Panthers have headed to State competition in cross country and only the second time in school history.

Red Ribbon Week in full swing!
Lufkin ISD is celebrating Red Ribbon Week this week. Wear a Red Ribbon to symbolize your commitment to be drug-free. The first National Red Ribbon celebration was in 1988.

Student Successes and District Superior Financial Rating announced at board meeting
Commended National Merit students and National Hispanic Recognition Program students were honored at tonight’s board meeting. District received a superior rating on the FIRST financial report.

A Day in the Life of Matt Thompson
The grounds department takes care of 400-plus acres covering 15 campuses with just 13 employees, and Mr. Thompson manages the day-to-day planning and implementing to make sure the district is in tip top shape.

2018-2019 Leadership Academy class announced

The Golden Spatula Award is given out monthly to the campus cafeteria staff that goes above and beyond to not only serve food to our students, but to serve with kindness, style and enthusiasm.

Parent meeting for information on dyslexia
October is Dyslexia Awareness Month, and Lufkin ISD will be hosting a Dyslexia Awareness Parent Night. Please join us for this event on Monday, October 29th at 6 p.m. at the Pines Theater.
Lufkin ISD receives $5.95 million dollar LETS GEAR UP grant
Lufkin Independent School District is the recipient of the U.S. Department of Education Linking Education to Success (LETS) Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) grant for the fourth time over the past two decades.

I tell the kids if you have the desire to try, you can succeed in anything. So many kids are not pushed to do anything. They play video games. They don’t go outside and ride bikes. When I was young, I was never home – push kids to get outside.

LMS Project Lit Book Club has great first turnout! (Photos)
The students enjoyed pizza, fun activities, and received a new book to read before the next meeting. The first book the club will read is “Ghost” by Jason Reynolds. The club was created because of a grant from the Lufkin Education Foundation.

Cheryl McCarroll, Anderson Elementary nurse, was given the Purple Heart of Excellence Award, an award given by the Lufkin ISD Health Services department to recognize campus nurses who go above and beyond.

“Everyone should know how to change a tire and put brakes on your car,” according to Kevin Thigpen, one of the four district mechanics that works on the school’s bus fleet and service vehicles at the Lufkin ISD Transportation Building.

Panther Community Forum addressed bond and safety & security
The Panther Community Forum, held last night at the Tom Jack Lucas Auditorium, was a platform for discussion on the update of the bond and school safety and security.
