Board approves MOU with Region 4 for Operation Connectivity
The Lufkin ISD Board of Trustees met in a Special Called meeting this morning via Zoom to approve a Memorandum of Understanding with Region 4 related to Operation Connectivity. The agreement is to provide funds for technology needs for virtual education.

Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer EXTENDED TO AUG. 21
P-EBT is for children 5-18 years old who received SNAP food benefits for the month of March 2020 and children up to 21 years old who are certified for free or reduced-price meals at school in Texas during the 2019-20 school year.

LHS cheerleaders participate in NCA “home” cheer camp
Cheer Coach Russell said: “Even with masks on, it is so inspiring to see our athletes filled with joy, yelling their newly learned cheers and trying to win a Spirit stick!”

Mrs. Gabriela Murphy named Director of Counseling at Lufkin High School
Lufkin High School principal Brandon Boyd named Gabriela Murphy Director of Counseling. He said, “Her experience and knowledge of graduation requirements, state accountability and all other facets of counseling is second to none.”

Pre-K Roundup scheduled for July 28 at Garrett Primary Gym
Pre-Kindergarten Round-Up will be at Garrett Primary Gym this year on Tuesday, July 28th.

Lufkin ISD Board votes to delay start of school until Aug. 24
Board president, Scott Skelton, said, “This is a fluid situation and we will continue to listen daily to medical professions and data.”

Football season expected to start Sept. 28 after UIL changes announced today
Lufkin High School’s football season is now expected to begin on Sept. 28, after the Texas University Interscholastic League released a new set of guidelines today.

Julie McManus named Lufkin High School Associate Principal of Curriculum and Instruction
Lufkin High School Principal Brandon Boyd announced that Julie McManus has accepted the position of Associate Principal at the high school.

Board approves Lufkin Middle School Guaranteed Maximum Price: Ready to break ground at LMS
This morning, the Board of Trustees approved the Guaranteed Maximum Price for the Lufkin Middle School bond project at a total of $51,915,647.12.

McClendon named principal at Brandon Elementary
Superintendent Lynn Torres announced this morning that Pamela McClendon will be the new principal at Brandon Elementary. The previous principal, Mark Keith, has accepted a principal position in his hometown of Paris, Texas.

Slaton named as Assistant Superintendent for Education Services and Accountability
Lufkin ISD Superintendent Lynn Torres announced that Shelly Slaton will take the position of Assistant Superintendent for Education Services and Accountability.

LHS ball fields taking shape
Kevin Langston, President and CEO of Langston Construction, said, “The ball fields are coming along nicely. We have poured the foundation for the field house and the foundation for the softball grandstands and press box. We are working on the foundation for the baseball grandstands and press box.”

Lufkin Middle School Salvage Sale begins on June 12th
Items will include gym lockers, panel metal from the exterior of the building, basketball goals, commercial doors, lighting, bathroom fixtures and anything else that can be removed from the building before demolition.
