To help students further prepare for college, Lufkin ISD will be hosting a College Night on Oct. 17 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Lufkin ISD Cafeteria.

On Oct. 27 & 29, the Panther Players will present the Wizard of Oz at the Tom Jack Lucas Auditorium at Lufkin High School.

Lufkin ISD is partnering with JAM Digital Media for live streaming for Lufkin Panther Athletics beginning on Oct. 21.

The WHAT-A-PANTHER award is presented each month to two students per grade level at Lufkin Middle School, a paraprofessional, and a teacher that exemplify the Panther Way.

Two Lufkin High School students have been named Commended Students in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program. According to a press release sent to the school by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, SreeNidhi Karnati and Griffin Willingham, are among about 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation who are being recognized for their exceptional promise.

Dyslexic students across the district will have artwork on display at the Museum of East Texas this Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. After the showcase, the items will go on an online auction with proceeds benefiting the Alys Ray Dyslexia Achievement Scholarship.

Dunbar Tigers are trained in bus safety thanks to the Lufkin ISD Transportation department. The staff brought over a shiny, new bus and their top-notch trained instructors and drivers to talk to the students about what to do in case of an emergency.

See You at the Pole is a global movement of prayer which is student-initiated, student-organized, and student-led. This year, the LHS Fellowship of Christian Athletes led the event and gathered for prayer around the flag poles near the new baseball and softball complex.

Dyslexic students across the district are displaying their artwork at the Museum of East Texas. October is Dyslexia Awareness Month.

LHS Principal Dr. Emmons and STEM Coordinator Suzy Jungmann presented the 2022 STEM Academy students laptop computers and volunteer awards in the LHS library this week.

“Our goal as speech-language pathologists in Lufkin ISD is to provide EVERY child a voice,” said Kristian Taylor, “because EVERY child has something to say.”
