At the Lufkin ISD Board Work Session today Eryn Avila, 7th grader at Lufkin Middle School, was recognized as the runner up winner of the Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest, a national contest sponsored by Optimum.

“When the students come here and see the trees they will go back to the classroom and write and discuss with each other about community and traditions,” said Erin Kay.

Lufkin ISD students helped out over the Thanksgiving holidays packing boxes of food for others at the Community Food Drive.

Lufkin High School Ignite students did tours to show the 8th grade students around to sessions.

Lufkin Middle School and Communities In Schools hosted a Serving Those Who Served Veterans Day luncheon today at the middle school. The 8th grade students involved in Communities in Schools served the veterans who work at Lufkin Middle School.

“My passion is writing,” said Veronica Morris, sixth-grade English/Language Arts teacher at Lufkin Middle School. “You take word choice, imagination and create a beautiful piece of writing coming from the heart with feeling and emotion.”

“We are proud and honored to have such innovative leaders on the TCEA Board of Directors,” said Lori Gracey, Executive Director of TCEA.

The Texas Army National Guard and the Texas High School Coaches Association recognize the 2022-23 Academic All-State Recipients.

Students across the district are being issued SMART tags to assist with bus transportation communication.
