Elementary UIL

Lufkin ISD is proud to provide students in second through fifth grades with the opportunity to participate in A+ Academics, a part of the University Interscholastic League program which is designed to motivate and challenge students while providing them with the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of specific skills.

Through these academic contests, students acquire higher levels of knowledge and are encouraged to think critically and creatively.  Each primary and elementary campus, within Lufkin ISD, participates in this annual UIL event by establishing teams and preparing for the various events that complement the academic curriculum.

A two-day district meet is held each year where students participate in contests that range from spelling, number sense, and geography to oral reading, music memory, and creative writing. All students who participate are recognized at the annual Elementary UIL Awards Ceremony, and the top six winners in each event are awarded.

Elementary UIL has become a much anticipated event for the LISD community over the years. We fervently believe that opportunities during the primary and elementary years, such as UIL, foster a desire for educational excellence.
