Lufkin High School choir students recently competed at the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest earning a Superior or Excellent rating. Each of these students had to learn and perform a song from memory for a judge at the state contest in Austin. Judges at this contest are usually college professors, so the judging is usually harder than the Region contest.

Adam Awtrey earned a distinction of Outstanding Performer, which is chosen by each judge from their most memorable performances throughout the entire day.
“This distinction is similar to a State Championship for Solo Singing. Only 2 to 3% of all students who compete in the contest earn this distinction,” said Nicole Stewart, Lufkin High School choir teacher.
“Our students did a great job and we are very proud of their performances,” said Nicole Stewart, Lufkin High School choir teacher,” said Stewart.
