Lufkin High School principal Brandon Boyd named Gabriela Murphy Director of Counseling for Lufkin High School. Julie McManus who previously held the position is now the Associate Principal of Curriculum and Instruction at the high school.

Mrs. Murphy earned her bachelor’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University (SFASU). She then taught high school Spanish at Diboll High School for 9 years. She returned to SFASU to receive her Master’s Degree in School Counseling and has worked at Lufkin ISD ever since as a counselor. Most know Mrs. Murphy for her extensive work in the Go Center where she helps secure scholarships, as well as mentors students on college and beyond. She has been with the district for 13 years.

Mr. Boyd said “We are all very excited to have Mrs. Murphy step into the position of Director of Counseling. Her experience and knowledge of graduation requirements, state accountability and all other facets of counseling is second to none. She knows our students and community and will do a great job serving them here at LHS.”

She and her husband, Chuck, have been married for 23 years and have two sons, Dylan and Cy.
