Lufkin High School provides choices of Advanced Placement courses in 19 subject areas. At the end of the course, a test is given that will determine if the student can receive college credit. The score is on a 5-point scale, with 5 being the highest. Each college will determine how the scores will effect credit or placement.
Last school year, Lufkin High School gave 652 exams to 303 students. Of those students, 35 received scores high enough to be an AP Scholar with a score of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams. Four students received scores to be an AP Scholar with Honor. These students’ test scores were at least an average score of 3.25 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on four or more AP exams. The AP Scholar with Distinction recognition went to 13 students with at least an average score of 3.50 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more AP exams. One student, Ali Khurshid, who was a senior last year, received the National AP Scholar with an average score of 4.29. To receive this recognition, the student must score at least an average of 4 on all AP exams taken and score 4 or higher on eight or more AP exams.
Six of the Lufkin High School AP tests resulted in scores higher than the United States average mean score: Art History, English Literature and Composition, European History, World History, Physics 1, and Spanish Language ·
Five of the Lufkin High School AP tests resulted in scores higher than the Global average mean score: Art History, European History, World History, Physics 1, and Spanish Language.
