Thankful for Turkey Trot!
Special needs students from Herty Primary, Anderson Elementary, Coston Elementary, Brookhollow Elementary, Brandon Elementary, Slack Elementary, Trout Primary, Lufkin Middle School and Lufkin High School enjoyed a day of fun at Lufkin High School where they were paired with LHS athletes to run, play games and do an obstacle course at John Outlaw Field.

The Teacher Incentive Allotment provides funding for compensation to pay highly effective teachers whose students show measurable improvement in academic growth.

“This club teaches self worth and how to carry yourself every day,” Tracey Mitchell, eighth grade science teacher, said.
Lufkin ISD Receives $1 Million Stronger Connections Grant
“This grant will provide funding for Brandon Elementary, Lufkin Middle School and Lufkin High School to support the academic and nonacademic needs of students,” Cindy Tierney, Executive Director of Student Services & Federal Programs, said. “By providing safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments, this grant will help in academic achievement as well as mental, behavioral, emotional and physical health and well-being of students.”
LHS senior Justice Jackson is a semi-finalist for Coca-Cola Scholarship
“Her hard work throughout high school is paying off, and I am excited to see where this journey takes her,” Autumn McDaniel, senior high school counselor, said.

LHS junior Claudia Salazar awarded outstanding music fellowship
“Claudia is a rock star student and musician,” Nicole Stewart, LHS choir teacher, said. “Having this opportunity will help her prepare and gain skills to be competitive in college auditions for scholarships to study music after high school.”
LISD is monitoring chemical plant fire in Shepherd
Lufkin ISD is monitoring the situation with the chemical plant fire in Shepherd. At this time, our local emergency management team advised that we are safe. If things change, we will be prepared to immediately contact parents and will post on social media. Otherwise, we will continue with our regularly scheduled school day.

Four LHS seniors are QuestBridge National College Match finalists
“Our Questbridge finalists are talented, motivated and excel academically,” said Julie McManus, LHS principal. “We anxiously await the final match decisions that will be delivered on Dec. 1.”

LHS junior Melissa Hernandez appointed president of state organization
“Melissa is an outstanding student,” Guadalupe Lila, LHS Spanish teacher said. “I have always found Melissa to be self-motivated, hardworking and intelligent. When we were contacted about the position, I knew we needed someone with good communication skills someone that could take the initiative and could stay calm under pressure.”
LHS senior Hayden Futch named Commended National Merit
Hayden Futch was notified by his high school principal Julie McManus that he received Commended National Merit status on his PSAT. About 34,000 students nationally are being recognized with this honor.
